Will an Aimpoint Comp M4 hold up to the recoil of a 308? Thinking about mounting one on my PTR91. What say you.

it would hold up to the recoil of a 458mag! there probably isnt a better built sight anywhere. About the only thing that comes close is an acog. I once saw a you tube deal where reps from aimpoint were taking the comp 3s off of two ars and bounceing them back and forth to each other on a concrete parking lot and when returned to the rifles held zero perfectly. Try that with a scope.

Thanks! My only experience with them is mounted on 5.56 rifles, I have one I'm not using, already on an ARMS mount with riser, basically all dressed up with no place to go, I also have a claw mount for HK receivers, so I think you just made my decision a lot easier.

One thing that is just my opinion is that your spending alot of money you dont need to. The comp 2 and comp 3 are just as good of sights for alot less money. The comp 4 may have a bit better battery life but I have a comp 2 on my home defense ar and its been left on for 3 years now on low and the batterys still going. I used to change them every new years but left this one going to see how long they really last. At even 2 years left on its hard to justify almost double the price to keep from changing batterys until 5 years has passed. Ive got 3 comp 2s and one comp 3 and theyve all been working flawlusly. the one comp2 is the only one i leave on all the time. The other advantage is the comp 2 and 3 are lighter and smaller. Bottom line is it would be hard for me to justify the extra cost of a 3 over a 2 let alone the big differnce in cost of a 4.

The one I already have is paid for. I bought it used from a 3 gun guy who was being restationed to Japan, I bought the Aimpoint, 3 thousand rounds of M193 ammo, magazines, all sorts of stuff at a deep discount. If I remember right I gave him something like $500 for everything.

 Were you holding a gun on him?

Nice deal, and as Lloyd said they are a darn good optic. I've seen them mounted on a 30-06(M1) before and checked with the owner on how it was doing. He was taking more punishment than the optic.

It was just one of those right place, right time deals. The guy was within 10 days of being shipped to Japan, and had to get rid of stuff fast.

Ive been useing for over 15 years the following Aimpoint modles on 44 mags & 454 casulls , aimpoint comp & XD , aimpoint comp M2 & M3 and for a few years the aimpoint Micro on 2, 454 Casulls with no problems. they put more stress on a sight than a 308 rifle

Issued on my M240, works like a champ. Seen a few on M2's. So it can handle a 50BMG. Don't think a little .308 will shake it at all.
