Has anyone used the powder GI Brass is selling as #102? The description says use Red Dot Data. This powders price is attractive if I can use it in place of Red Dot. I use lots of Red Dot for plinking loads for the Grandaughter and myself.
Thanks
Jim

...........I have not, but if you don't get an answer from someone here who has, my suggestion would be to call Jeff. I doubt it's 'exactly' like Red Dot and most likely is a bit slower. Sounds like it'd make a great pistol powder!

Jim, I used it back in 2003-4 but it's NOT the same stuff. Bartletts site says that it's a flake powder made by Hercules. The stuff I used was not a flake powder. A quote from his site then says "Czechoslovakian-This is the very same powder sold today by AA as #2 Improved. This load data won't do you much good but may help someone who has the stuff I had.

CCI large pistol primers

45ACP mixed cases 230 gr. lead RN 5.3 gr #102

45 Colt Starline cases 255 rg. lead RNFP 6 gr. #102

If you're not committed to ordering from Bartlett you might also consider a look at patsreloading.com. They list two powders that may be of interest to you AA Solo 1000 (comparable to 700x, Red Dot) and Scot 453. Load data for Solo 1000 is easy to find. I contacted Accurate Arms about data for the Scot 453 and Johan Loubser the Ballistics Lab manager mailed me load data. The data covers the following cals. .38 spl., .38 spl.+P, 9MM,.357 mag., 45ACP, 40 S&W, .38 Super, .380ACP, .44 mag. .

I use Green Dot data for .44 Special and .45 Colt when using the Scot 453 powder and that seems to work well...Ray
