I have acces to @100 pcs of brass and a RCBS dieset, soooo.
Does anybody have knowledge of chamber dimentions?
I know a machinist that can fabricate a reamer but to what size, that's the question!

To refine the search it's a 3 1/8" case length chamber i am going to cut.

I have the 500 NE and a 416/500 NE reamer. What is the 577/500?

The only info I can find on this monster is on P.404 of my manual of cartridge conversions.

If you have Quickload and QuickDesign tou could import the design into Quickload and it should get you started.

I have Quickload, but not QuickDesign.

I only have an QL 2.9 and wont shell out $150 for the ability to make a drawing.
But it seems that things might sort themselves out after all. There just might be a guy in Denmark that has the proper reamer.

Heres the cases (unfortunatly @50% is 577/500 #2 wich is 2 7/8" long) 45 good strong and for the most part never shot or reloaded cases from Bertram. At only $5½ a piece it's a steal :holysheep. And a RCBS dieset in 577/500 Magnum Nitro Express 3 1/8". QL says casecapacity is 177gr of water so around 160gr of Swiss #4 might get things moving along:veryconfu

And I thought the 416 Rigby looked big.

I found some info here http://forums.nitroexpress.com/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=157661&an=0&page=0 about a quarter of the way down the page.

I will also send a P.M. on some other stuff I found.

That looks like a lot of fun! The big question is, what gun are you going to shoehorn that into? I'd never seen the 577 necked down, guess it was a regular item at some point. Loaded with nitro powder that ought to have some pretty lively performance.

I have an Alex Henry Double rifle in this caliber. What do you need for measurements? I'd base a fresh reamer out of the dies and brass you already have in hand. RCBS should be able to give you some help too. I shoot reduced loads of IMR4831 smokeless with dacron wadding.

I just looked at the CIP standards and they don't list this grand old dame.

Why?

Anything BP stoaked will be fine pressure wise and Husquarna made RB rifles in 500 NE 3 1/4" and cal 20. Remember that Swedish steel was the finest of the finest at that time! Oh and i had a 8x58RD RB with a 50 BMG barrel on chambered in 500 NE 3". And i think i lived to tell?

Surely you're not running full nitro loads from a rolling block? The Black powder loading was just called a '500 Express' not Nitro.

Have you read the book "Shooting the British Double Rifle" by Graeme Wright for Nitro for Black loads (NFB) as well as loads for straight black powder? IMO it's a 'must have'. Get the 3rd edition,,,

I was looking thru some of my referance books and foiund some drawings from Kynoch of some of these old cartridges. Perhaps Kynamco/Kynoch or Horneber or Bertram could help you with chamber sizes?

Take a good look at the pictures at the bottom of the page... Rollers are like Blaser rifles; when thing goes bad, they go bad in a really nasty way.

I generally have reamers made from a dummy round I load.
