Just a heads up. This probably won't matter to anyone else since I probably have the only old .30-30 in captivity without a scope.
If you use the Weaver #82 base on an old H&R 158, you need to either releive the bottom of the base or remove the folding sight from the barrel.
I am not sure if this is necessary on the newer H&R 1871 or NEF rifles or not, I think the barrel contours have changed, but I am not sure.
