My father won't let me cast for his gun cause all the people down here said they don't like boolits and he never listens to me as usual but he will let me reload.
I'm gonna use the berrys plated bullets for regular plinking but I want to also get soft point projectiles too.

I'd like hollow points better but I realize the gun was made with only ball in mind but I read an article about how corbon is working on expanding round for the carbine it will take awhile and they haven't given an ETA cause they are working past the failure to feed issue.

What powder do you recommend surplus and then one commercial.

Can I use small pistol primers or do I have to get small rifle primers.
I'm also planning to get a gun in .357 and a couple in .45acp what primers do I need for those?

What's some of your fav loads for the carbine

Christmas is comin and it looks like I might get a job soon and I'm ready to stock up.
I know hoarding is kinda looked down upon but there is no reloading anything for hours.

Plated bullets are made from soft lead and the plating is very thin so a soft point bullet is not needed. Some people use pistol primers in the carbine and do just fine or say they work better. 45 ACP uses a standard large pistol primer and I've also used reg small pistol primers in my 357 and it worked fine there too.

Too bad on the negative to cast bullets......maybe some day....

For jacketed I've use the Hornady 100 gr HJ for many years and they work extremely well giving excellent accuracy at 1900+ fps and excellent terminal performance. They also feed in all M1 Carbines I've tried them in without problems. I prefer H110 in my carbine loads, cast and jacketed. I also use SR primers (mostly WSRs). Start at 13.5 gr and work up to 15.5 gr under the 100 gr HJs.

A more expensive bullet but one that is really deadly on varmints is the Hornady 90 gr .308 cal XTP. I load it over 16 gr H110. Hornady shows 16.8 gr as max but work up your load anyways.

For general run of the mill 110 gr RNs watch for sales from Midway, graff's, etc. on the bulk Remington or Winchester 110 SP or FMJs. I load them over 14.5 gr H110. Sometimes pulldown 107 gr milsurp bullets can be obtained from dealers in milsurp powder/bullets also.

+1 on Larry's post. I usually use a cast boolit but have uses the HJ with good results with 12gr 2400 and use CCi SR primers. The HJ makes a good small game load.

Lyman makes a very good 130gr plain base mold for the 30 carbine. There are a number of good powders to use with it including H110, 4227 and 2400. I have used those in literally dozens of carbines without any leading problems. It is very unlikely that that bukket would cause any problems in your fathers carbine. HOWEVER: I have had problems with plated bullets when pusing them over 1600 fps! I won't use the plated bullets anymore, but feed all 12 of my carbines at least 3 different cast bullets with great success and no leading.

With any bullet, lead or jacketed, weighing around 120 grains, 13-14 grains of IMR 4227 will give you around 1800 fps...enough to work the action and pretty much duplicate GI ball ammo. If using a lead bullet a gas check design might work better, to prevent gas cutting and possible leading. Keep your cases trimmed to the same length and use a slight taper crimp. LLS

For what ever reason, my Carbines like the Remington 110 fmj better than the Hornady. My load is 15 grains 296. Again, for what ever reason, Magtech SR primers gave me the best accuracy.

The Sierra 110gr JHP varmint bullet is very accurate in my carbines. I also use the Lee 113gr RFN and 120gr RN cast gas checked bullets.

Keep the plated bullets down to 1,600 fps. There is a warning on the Berry's ad about this.

I have used several cast bullets in my Carbines including a lyman 115 gr GC pointed, 130 gr PB pointed, Lee 120 gr RN GC, Hornady half jackets, speer Half jackets, fmj 110 gr, 110 gr jsp, Rainer plated bullets and Berrys plated bullets. They all works fine with any powders suitable to the caliber. I have used 2400, H110, Win 296 and Acurate 1680 plus several others that are no longer available. The carbine is a very easy round to load and shoot. I have killed small game such as rabbits as well as varmints with it with great success. I have also killed three deer with a carbine using Hornady HJ bullets. All were shot at less than 50 yards two went down with one shot and the other which was a running doe I just kept shooting till it fell over. I hit her thee for three though the lungs and any one of the shots would have killed her but the carbine is so fast to shoot that I got off three rounds before she fell over.

"What powder do you recommend surplus and then one commercial."

WC820 is military .30 carbine powder. Great stuff for .357, .41, .44 Mag as well.

Being as the carbine has a floating firing pin I would only use Small Rifle Primers, preferrably CCI.

Regarding a bullet, I cast a 100 gr. flat base bullet from a Lee Mold #90301 and size it to .311 and get excellent accuracy.

Powder I use is IMR 4227 at 12 grains.

I have one of the LeMag carbine conversion's.
Mine's a 45 Win Mag.
I use the Lee 230 TC TL with the Castboolit's formula of a 45/45/10 mixture of Johnson's Paste Wax (JPW), Lee Liquid Alox (LLA) and odorless mineral spirits (MS).
I use 16-17 grain's of Accurrate #7 with either rifle or pistol primer's.
Never had a leading problem with the barrel or gas port.
Sit's in a Ramline side folding stock.
These conversion's are known for eating wood stock's.

That is so cool. I have an LAR Grizzly .45 Win. Mag. I use Blue Dot exclusively. My former boss has a LeMag in .50AE.

The only thing I have in .30 Carbine is an Automag III.

This is the only one I've ever seen here in Canada, and being a 45 cal the barrel is plenty thin!
That 50 must have a super thin barrel.
Ever have any problem's with cast in your LAR?

Haven't tried it yet, Zuke. I should be ashamed.
