I am thinking about getting this for my Logan Lathe

http://www.ebay.com/itm/15-Pc-ER40-Spring-Collet-Set-Collets-MT3-Chuck-New-/360401930917?pt=BI_Tool_Work_Holding&hash=item53e9a10aa5

Anyone know the depth of chuck or Collet?

Do I need a draw bar its threaded for 1/2 13?

If I do, any suggestion's on how to make one?

I found plans for 1 1/2"- 8 headstock chuck so you can go through headstock

Any help will be appreciated

I like ER collets because they can be used as open ended or closed, as opposed to R8, 5C or MT collets being only closed.

Your Ebay set is mainly used on Vertical Milling Machines with #3 Morris Taper spindle and the drawbar is sized to the machine. The drawbar is necessary due to the cutting tool sideload as opposed to the download of drilling/plunging.

Buy this set, (or the one that fits your mill) and leave the ER Collet Holder in your mill. Then build or purchase the ER Collet Lathe Chuck for your lathe and use the collets from the Ebay set on both machines.

The open ended ER40 Lathe Chuck will allow you to chuck up to ¾” diameter bar stock as long as your shop in your lathe.
