OK, so as I ask this question, I feel a draft:oops:

I've searched on the topic and I see many references to do it, but not HOW to do it... I can see where this would yield some good info, so how do you "cast" your chamber.. What's the technique? Be kind.. I had "after hour support" pages the past two nights and I'm tired...LOL:Fire:

lightly oil the chamber. A patch with kroil works. Fold another lightly oiled patch and block the bore 1 to 2 inchs foreward of the chamber. I like to push this patch in from the muzzle with a welding rod. Melt the cerrosafe in a double boiler. I use a "tin" can with the rim squeezed into a funnel shape. Support the gun, muzzle down. Fill the chamber with the molten cerrosafe. After five minutes or so the cast will tap out quite easily. The Cerrosafe, which is a Bismuth compound, shrinks a few thousandths in the first half hour, which allows easy removal. At one hour the cast has expanded and is pretty close to an exact dimensional image of the chamber. It continues to slowly expand for a week or so to 1 to 2 thousandths over chamber size. Don't leave the cast in the chamber for more than a half hour.

Wills...

Thanks for the links. I've been waiting on some Cerrosafe (backordered from MidwayUSA) for a couple of weeks now. I've got my Marlin 375 and 336ER waiting for measurement and there are some excellent tips in the articles I've never considered.

In the old days we used Sulphur. Sulphur will be right at chamber dimension 15 minutes after removing from the chamber. Use just like cerrosafe and you can buy it at the drug store.

You can download the instructions for cerrosafe at Brownell's. Maybe the above link will work. You will need to put cerrosafe in the search box and it should come up. the instruction sheet is in the shop work section. If you can't find it send me a pm.

You can buy Cerrosafe from McMaster-Carr, and they won't be backordered. It would not surprise me if Midway doesn't buy it there themselves.

Search for "cerro" There are numerous variants.

McMaster-Carr has no minimum order, and will usually ship same day unless you order on Sunday, and they will take your credit card. Their print catalog is about 2 1/2" thick, and in fine print. An amazing place.
