lever gun using Lee 358-158-RF mold and W231/HP-38. I've found much data for use in wheel guns but really nothing in the was of the lever action.

Was thinking about 4.1 to 4.4gr of W231 from what I've read from various posts and manuals.

What say ye oh forum gurus?

Cheers!

5 gr of 231 should get you around 1130fps using .38spl cases. Load is accurate enough.

Take Care

5 gr of 231 is not considered a hot load I assume? These have cast about 3% above the 158 gr.

3.5-4.0 of 231 would be a good load in 38 or 357 cases. Your rossi may not like 38sp cases.

Jake,

I've used 38 in it before. 357 is hard to get in there. I was thinking about going 4.1 to 4.4 of 231 but did not want to load them too awfully hot. Hornady caps at 850 fps and I believe 4.4 gr but that is also handgun data.

i use herco which is a bit slower than unique for my everyday load.
it meters better than unique too.
7 grs and a 158 seems about right for sight changes.

My dad loves Herco in .357 mag. I think he just likes the belching flames to be honest. lol

I never really thought about Unique or Herco. I never really used Alliant Powder until I started reloading shot shells.

Here are a few of the best loads in my 20inch M92:

TL-358-158-SWC 3.5 grains of 700X, OAL 1.610 (super accurate, light load)
TL-358-158-SWC 13.5 grains of H110, OAL 1.610
TL-358-158-SWC 5.4 grains of Unique, OAL 1.610 (nice mid-range)
357-429 13.5 grains of H110, OAL 1.620 (NOE mould)

All in 357 brass, 38 special brass cycles fine but the groups open up.

The 158's should translate to your bullet mould. I've been using straight Johnson's Paste Wax on the TL bullet with excellent results.
