Are there 22 revolvers the same quality as H&R or a step up?

From my limited experience 40 years ago with some of both, the HS was a finer piece of machinery. The HS semi autos were and are very highly regarded.

They are a step up.

Having owned both I would say High Standards are a step up.....but not a huge step-The old H&Rs were inexpensive but highly functional.

My experience agrees with everything said above.

Some years back before my father in law passed he gave me his High Standard Sentinel with 6" barrel. It is every bit as accurate as any Ruger or S&W .22LR revolver I've ever had. I consider it a very well made revolver.

THe later Sentinals were several steps up, te earlier Double 9's and Sentinals were one or two. THe revovlers were no where near the qulaity of the autos.

I looked at a unfired 6 inch barreled sentinal with holster. What should I offer her for this firearm?

.22 revolvers are notoriously hard to make accurate. The HS, K22 and single six are great guns but it is hard to make them shoot like an auto.
They are fun and do all you need so I would say the HS would be a good buy. Price? No idea. Be awful nice to have one.

I bought this one last year for just under $200. 4"made in 63 IIRC. I reblued the missing parts, filed the front sight to remove the Tee from the top and decided to ignore the ivory colored Franzite grips. It shoots 8 in a 1 3/4" circle with the 9th hole consistently going left 1". I think I did OK, it likes Fed bulk pack the best.

I don't know about rating "steps" of relative quality in handguns, but the High Standard seems both more durable and more nicely finished than the H&R, at least IMHO. I have owned a Sentinal Deluxe snubbie since I traded for it used in 1970, and if kept cleaned and lubed it is a fine and dependable shooter.

As to price, I see nice examples going for $200+, so Daniel's unfired 6" would be somewhere in the $200 to $250 range around here, maybe a little more or less depending on the day. MT G, yours sounds good, and if you will check the parts dealers at gun shows, those grips show up from time to time. Mine has a one piece grip with the front strap showing... I went from a little "bird's head" style grip to a square butt with the change of a single screw in the bottom... but that was 30 years ago when HS parts were a LOT easier to find! :D

I had one of the later guns, the 4 incher that looked like a Detective Special. Mine was a 22 Mag and the higher cost of the maggie shells lead me to send it down the Road. Had it been a 22 LR, I'd still own it.

Just recently bought a High Standard Sentinel Deluxe w/4 in barrel excellent condition, no rust, worn bluing, no drag mark on cylinder for 200 at local pawn shop. Shoots accurately and alot lighter ( alloy frame) than my S&W 22. Finish isn't quite there, more of a dull matte finish but good enough. In some ways, HS was ahead of their time with some of their guns. A friend in FL bought one with a 3 in barrel in 22 mag for 250. It also shoots accurately.

Sometime in the early 70s I bought a well used HS Double 9 (single action looking but DA) for about $50 or $60 at a gunshow. It would out shoot a Ruger Super Single Six. The double action trigger pull was heavy but the single action was downright nice. I've always regretted selling it.

My R-107 Sentinel Deluxe (6") is almost as accurate as my Dan Wesson Model 15 -- I just wish it had better sights, to make it easier to use the accuracy. Well, the rear is on a dovetail, if I had money to spend on it I guess I could upgrade...
