34gr of 3031 and a rcbs 405gr boolit. Good for about 1350fps or so. Faster than that and the thumping gets too serious for me.

What is the best way to smooth up the action. The more I work it the better it gets but it still has a hard time chambering a round. It pulls it out of the tube just fine but it seems as though it is having tough time alining with the bolt. If I release the pressure on the bolt then re apply it, it will push the round up until it hits the extractor and then becomes tough again but it does chamber with some effort.

Does any one have a step by step pictograph of how to do the work and dis assembly of the gun described in the link above?

The Marlin Owners website has threads with pics. Lots of good info over there. If I'm not busy on this site I'm usually over there.

grubbylabs, Great gun!
If you look at RCBS.:CastBoolitsisbest:
They make a 405gr. boolits for the Marlin.

I like it! Very nice wood as well. To be quite honest I bought my Guide Gun years ago because of the exceptional wood and it's not as pretty as yours. It sat on a high pair of hooks near the ceiling of a LGS for over a year. It had nice wood, it was a levergun, what's not to like? Didn't like the idea of a new caliber and all that entailed but I've gotten over that.:bigsmyl2:

I have been wondering about refinishing it to make it a little darker. I think it would bring out its character a little more. I might play with the underside of the for piece or under the recoil pad first just to see how it looks.

Well I ordered a mold today. I ordered it from Tom at Accurate Molds. It is the 46-405B He is going to cut it so it drops about 392 so that when I add the gas check it should come up to 400 grains.

I already have one of his molds and I really like it. I ordered this mold in brass. This will be my first brass mold. I hope brass is as nice as every one says it is.

So what are some of your favorite loads for a 400 grain bullet?

mine is 47 gr 3031 w/440 gr Hoch boolit
or one of Tom's 325 gr45-325A w/53.0 gr 2015

My hunting load is 57 gr of W748 under a Rem 405 J-bullet or RCBS 405 GC cast boolit.

Both shoot at or under 2" at 100 yds, run about 1750 fps and will almost shoot through
a blue wildebeeste on a shoulder shot after breaking both shoulders.

Keep us posted on how this mold performs. I've been wavering back and forth about having Tom make me a 460 425gr modified from one of his catalog offerings.

I know that the previous mold I bought from him is top notch. I do not see a need to buy from any one else so long as he will make me what I want and the quality stays the same. He usually only does email but he is good to work with and the prices are really reasonable.

If I ever lost my 460420 group buy mold, I would get Tom to make me one.

Lyman #457193 405gr, cast as either pure PB or HCast to about 410gr. Then 43-46 gr IMR3031 for 1500-~1700 fps. 1700 is a bit fast; not enough lube to handle that and leading increases. The 43gr load seems to shoot very straight with minimum leading out of vintage Winchester 1886's.

I'm with crabo on this one. Love the GB 460420. 40 grains of 3031 for a very fine, do-it-all, mild to moderate on the shoulder, giant killer. Very accurate and lethal. I also load 30 grains of 4198 with a touch of dacron for my buddy. It's even more moderate on recoil but still very accurate.
