Just read a lot here about extruding lead wire and it clarified a lot of questions about size and power needed (at least for me), yes we are some n00bs here in the start up and learning fase. Sorry!

The factories make theirs with an inline system, LOTS of steps...........

The swaging that we do is one operation at a time, in batches.

Our swaging is at least as accurate (when done properly, using proper tools) and sometimes better than factory swaged bullets. Most of the bigger shooting accuracy competitions in the USA are won by shooters who swaged custom bullets themselves.

Thanks for the video link.

Yes, thank you for the link. I often get questions on how bullets are made. The video will explain it better than my words.

Very cool video showing the steps at the factory level. Extruding lead wire from an 80 lb billet is beyond the home/small swager but extruding short lengths of wire from a 2 lb billet is doable with a small hydraulic press.

I wish they'd reviewed the forming steps more in the video or detailed the manufacture of the point of the bullet. (Not all bullets have a ballistic tip as they portray.

I toured the Sierra factory when it was on Painter Ave., in Whittier, CA, back in the late 1970's. I've also toured the Nosler plant in Bend, OR, on two different occasions.

Al,

Nosler won't give any samples at all (I asked), but I did get a sample of each step when I was given the personal tour of Sierra. There's a story to that, since they didn't give tours back then.......

Interesting to watch, but too brief.
I bet the entire segment was much better.
Not news to me at all. But I like watching modern manufacturing processes.
Ever watched how fast a modern brewery bottles beer?

I agree with that one.
