Trying to find out Date of manufacture for Winchester 94

Hello. I am trying to find out the date of manufacture of my Dads, Winchester Model 94. It is a pre 64. The serial # is 2556xxx. Any help will be apreciated.

'63 hows come this gun has so many x's in the serial?

I am blocking out the last 3 digits in the serial #.The Government does not need to know what I have! So you say it was made in 1963?

1963 is what my book shows for the year of manufacture for that serial number.
