Scored today with 120# of lead from an 8" water main, that was about 7 joints of the water main, sledge hammer and gas axe made quick work of this score of lead. Should be nice soft lead.

If there is 7 joints in that pipe, you likely have a tin score as well.

Nice.

Thats where i get alot of my lead. Use the breaker from a backhoe. The joints will shatter. If you do this on an old valve you will usually get two brass rings from the seat assembly..Tons of it is out there still buried

Years back, the connection from the water main to the service line was lead.

This would have served the same function as a "swing joint" in releving pressure on the lines cause by settling of the lines or ground shift.

Probably tons of that still out there, but likely that is where most of it will stay.

Keep em coming!

We just did a job that had a tee-a 6" valve-and an extra bell. Got 40lbs out of that job alone. Keep your eyes out for old tapping in valve joints.. Most of the joints were solid with lead. We did a 16 inch a few years ago and two guys had a heck of a time lifting the lead out. :-D
