I am looking for info on this bullet, my old Lyman book says its a pretty bood bullet I think the 150gr flatpoint would make a good hunting bullet for my 30cal contenders, anybody cast it? shoot it? thanks in advance.

I've got it. It's really a blunt round nose. In my rifles it does nothing that 311291, 31141, Lee's 150gr flat nose or CBE's 309162 won't do as well or in most cases better. It does give reasonable accuracy, but so do all the rest.

I have a 31141 that I like pretty well, just felt that the FL would hit hard with lots of shock, thanks for the reply, Rick

We had a group buy on that one, last year I think. Lee 6 cavity mould. There hasn't been a lot of load development talk, but you might look around and find something.

You didn't mention which cartridge you plan to use it in, but in a single shot you're obviously not going to have an issue with chambering from a magazine.

And it IS lighter weight than the 311041 or 311091 (which is a subject of a group buy right now, if you're interested).

i shoot a 14" contender in 30-30 ackley improved and the 31141 shoots pretty good in it, my wife shoots 30-30 win. in a 14" contender too, i have an old mold I think is a 311466 152 gr. loverin bullet that throws an ugly bullet that shoots pretty good but is a real pain to gas check due to the GC shank being a little oversize and I ruin lots of bullets and checks trying to get them seated, was wanting something in the 150 class a little easier to work with. The three, 465,466 and 467, are Loverins and weigh 122, 152 and 177 grs respectively(per literature).
Haven't cast and weighed them myself.

There are a couple of things you might do to alleviate the problem of gas checks not wanting to fit well.

First, consider annealing the gas checks. There are some ideas here on how to do that.

Second, use an appropriately sized ball bearing (or other device) to open the gas check to better fit the shank on your boolit.

Then, when you seat the check (or size the boolit), the check will not damage the base of the boolit.:coffee:

RCBS made or makes a 308-150 sp that works good in the contender. It is a flat point SP with a small metplat. Not really designed for use in lever action 30-30's like their 30-150 FN. Mine shoots really good it my 14" T/C with the factory muzzle brake. Mark

i was using that in my Winchester '94, but I switched to the 173 gr. flatty. Seems to be a little tighter of a group at 100 yards, and the 2 deer I dropped with them last year didnt go 20 yard before dropping. the 150 may be better in the contender though. let me know if you want to try the 173's. I can send 'ya a few to try
