It is HP. That said, I would suggest anybody that pays this much needs intervention counseling.

Yup..I'm guessing they'll be holding on to those for awhile....but then again there are....(you fill in the blank) that will pay that much.

The seller's offering free shipping (medium flat rate box?) that brings the price down to about $240.

But geez, the seller did say this . . .

I have been casting bullets for 24 years and have seen some molds, I describe items as seen. So please bid with confidence.

That must be what makes it worth 4X it's value.

I've been casting longer than that and I've seen some molds also so all of my molds are now worth 400% more.

Probably on a bread crust or stale cheese. RD

Maybe it is vintage AND rare. If we apply the same method of valuation as the seller then my beat up frankenmold (358477 with mould blocks from two different moulds) is now worth close to $190 bucks.

Boy, if I can make that much from used molds on fleabay I think I will buy a bunch, use them once, then more than double my money!

rick pretty much quoted what i saw about the add ...( maybe he didnt pack it right and it broke few of his ummm precious salad plates so he has to recoup .....) i do admit that it's no longer currently made but believe eric could hollow point the same mold and for cheaper ....

Ok, folks, I'll tell you what I think this is all about. I bet his wife told him to sell some of his moulds before he could buy more, so he puts this up, and when it doesn't sell he can honestly tell his wife that he 'tried' to sell his mould.

Fellers.....you sure do have your panties in a wad over that flea bay ad.

But he's in business to make money and I've seen moulds that were a lot less desireable go for more than that and nobody twisted their arm to make them buy them.

I personally know the seller and he probably owns more moulds (and not Lees either) than 75% of the people on this site and has been casting and trading and shooting cast longer than 24 years. I'd say he has probably cast more bullets than most on the site except the commercial casters.

Yes, he's in the china business but has taken early retirement and is in business on his own and occasionally a mould or reloading equipment comes his way. I'm willing to bet that several of your wives have done business in china with him and surely his company in the past and haven't complained when they paid your money for china or silverware.

It's a good mould for sure and not worth that to me but I've backed away from some before and not complained.

Either buy it or leave it alone./beagle

From what I could see, it looked to be in excellent condition. A collector who wanted just that mould to round off a collection would pay that, nowwwwwwwwwww, if several of them got into a bidding war, anything is possible. Collectors are different from the rest of us. They can't rest until the 'collection' is complete.

I have a collection of the various battle rifles from the first and second world war era. I have tried to get one of each type to experience what weapons the various armies used. This style of 'collection' would not suit a 'real' collector because it has too many holes in it. I have a 6.5 Arisaka for example, a real collector would want a 7.7 and carbine and rifle examples as well. I have a 1903, a real collector would have samples of an 03A3, etc, etc. I have several Mauser98s, which give me the experience of a rifle that was used by the Germans, but I only have an 8mm Turk, an Israeli 762 and a re-furbished post war rebuild in 3006. I am happy that these provide me with the feel and experience, but once again, a 'real collector' would want an original in 8mm as used by the Germans and not just a Turk or a rebuild in 7.62 or 3006.

Strange people indeed. Like a non shooter trying to figure a shooter out, a non collector trying to work a collector out is all at sea trying to make head or tail of it.

Unfortunalely, my 'collection,' such as it is, does not include any semi auto weapons as my Government does not trust me with them. So it includes a lot of bolt rifles and a few straight pulls.

Somebody on e-bay thought it was worth it. That's his/her business.
I'm sure the seller smiled all the way to the bank, that's his business.
Was the seller dishonest? was the buyer mentally challenged? That is none of our business, except that your molds may be worth more to the right seller than they are to you.[smilie=l:

Like I said, if you were an avid collector looking for precisely that mould or were a died in the wool Elmer Keith fan and had the necessary disposable, everyone is happy!

I sold an identical mold about 2 yrs ago on the "Bay" for pretty close to the same amount. If people want the mold and are willing to pay, who are we to argue?

I saw a painting not too long ago that joined Mrs. Walton's museum for $36M or thereabouts. Interesting, but so what? The picture does "belong" to the group displayed, but is it the last one that does so? Apparently so, but I don't know anything about art and its collective value except it looks nice. ... felix

Now that would be something to see. A boolit mold on a fancy wooden stand right next to a Monet in a museum of classic art.

felix
10-06-2012, 06:15 PM
That just might happen one of these days. If the mold could be documented with authentic paperwork to belong to the gun in that $$$ picture, you can bet 250 bucks would be a joke. ... felix
