Wheeler is no longer manufactured according to note on Midway site. In looking elsewhere, that tool is notably missing from their lineup.

The Wheeler for doing Mauser scope bases? I have one, I have not used it for years. Works well.

Sundog,

I have a Williams D&T fixture. It takes longer to set up than the Wheeler design but is more flexible. For ease of use in drill & tapping a Mauser action, I would pick the Wheeler, if it was still available. However, the Williams gives you the option of also drilling for iron site mounting holes in the barrel.

The fixture centers itself using a scissor action. While excellent for an Mauser action with paralleled sides, it is a little harder to use on the barrel where the sides taper. With a tapered barrel, you have to cradle the barrel in some way (a 1X2 with a channel might work) and use the scissor centering feather of the Williams fixture against the paralleled sides of the cradle.
