Has anyone recently sold scrap primers? I have a mostly full gallon jug and it's getting time to get rid of them. I am pretty sure they are just brass. Thanks.

A couple months back I took some old brass in, the scrap dealer took the brass that still had fired primers in it. But said he could not take just the primers .

as noted some scrap yards do some dont but ... they make a pretty decent filler for a shooting bag ( and oddly enough how fitting :P )

Do you really want fired primer lead styphnate residue filtering through your sandbags? DUH !

As to the sale of them, just dump them in the bottom of the junk brass box.

Depends on the scrap dealer. The ones I took in, I had put the spent primers in the bottom of the bucket covered with old cases, the guy at the loading dock ask as soon as he saw the bucket, if there were any loose spent primers in it, I said yes and he had me pick out the cases, and I came home with the loose primers. So you may or may not be able to sell them, the guy I dealt with, must have got chewed out for taking them at that location, he knew to ask.

From what I understand, the problem with scrap primers is the possibility of live primers hiding in the mix. We do testing of 20-30mm rounds here at work, and we have to certify that there aren't any live primers in the casing that we sell off as scrap.

My guy doesn't care. As long as no shotgun primers (steel) it's all brass.

I mix mine in with my scrap brass. Don't dump it all in the bottom of the pail, because when he dumps it out that's the last thing he'll be looking at. All the scrap yard guy does is run a magnet over it and then dump it in a large bin. I did get caught with some shotgun primers mixed in with the brass and had to take the whole pail full home and sort it out. Don't make that mistake anymore.
