Have not shot my 444 since having neck fusion surgery back in Feb. of this year. I bought a west side Elk tag, and figured I needed to shoot a bit before the season opended.

Winchester "Big Bore 94"
Weaver 2.5X scope
R-P brass
51.0 gr AAC 2015
285gr LBT group buy 6 banger mold
sized .431
Home brewed "Red" lube
WW large rifle primers

115 yds (paced)
shot off of a bench with the "Lead Sled"
3 shot group, under the Dime, a Quarter covers it up :-)

It, nor I can do this all the time, but it was a good note to end the day on.

How's you neck going to do without the lead sled? I hope you work up slowly for the recoil. I shot my Ruger No.1 in 45-70 6 weeks after shoulder surgery...I think I pooped a little. Learned to shoot left handed real fast.
Nice group, those 444's are awesome.

I don't think you need full power loads in the 444 or the 45/70 rifles. I shoot a 300 gr cast RCBS bullet with 38 grs. of 3031 IMR and could easily take deer and elk with it (45/70 1884 Carbine)..
At the range several weeks ago a fellow was shooting his new 338 Lapua Magnum complete with muzzle break. There were other people on the range and they stepped out of the area because of the severe concushtion they felt from the rifles blast. Think about ear damage, eye damage (detached retinas) for no practicable reason. Does one shoot Elk at 500 yds effectively? I don't think so. Because of a 35 Whelen with 250 gr bullets I don't see out of my right eye very good anymore. As you get older it becomes more of a threat. Be Safe!!!
