Calls for small mag rifle primers, I have none. What could be used in place or is it a no-no?

If you're not loading full house loads, small pistol magnum should work fine (as long as the pressures are down). Especially with easy to light and medium faster powders. People here have bored out the .454 to use large pistol primers, and liked it that way.

For reduced loads in the 454 case with Tightgroup powder , i have excellent results with a std Fed small pistol primer in 3 differt guns and 3 loads 8.0 @ 980 fps / 9.0 @ 1,100 fps & and 11.0 @ 1250 fps with 260 ,275 & 300 gr cast bullets.
for med loads with med burning powder aka HS6 i use small pistol mag as i have alot about 15,000 on hand with excellent results .
With full loads i use small rifle , either Rem 7 1/2 BR or Fed SR

Better to use standard small rifle primers than sm magnum pistol.
Sm rifle primer engineered for 55k pressures, pistol primer isn't.
Sm rifle primer produces greater flame volume than pistol.

I've only used small rifle in my Casull loads.

Use small rifle primers guys! It ain't about lighting off the powder...it's about containing all that pressure that make the Casull the whiz-bang it is. SRPs are stronger than SPPs.
