I picked up a new one today. Matte blue w/ black stock in 44 Mag. It's an SB1 frame so I can't change barrels other than 357 Mag or shotgun. Don't care she's for cast anyhow. It's a 22" heavy bbl w/no sights. I got a Lee 310 RFNGC from a forum member a while back that really throws a nice fat boolit that works extremely well in a Dan Wesson 744VH8 with 1-16 twist. That's where I'll be starting out tommorrow.

if it a newer one no problem but the older 44 had a 1in 38 twist and most had over size bores. should,nt be a problem for you if you cast and size your own. hope you injoy the new toy

Heard a rumor that the new owners of NEF were fitting some of the same barrels to the new NEF as the old H&Rs had, 30-30, 22 Hornet, etc. Don't know if it is true or not.

I got out and shot the 44 h&r today. I've got to do something about the trigger! 7lb pull with a gritty creep. Horrible. It shot the Lee 310gr RFGC into 4" @ 100yds. I'm hoping it'll get better 'cause my Dan Wesson 744VH8 will do that well.

Mine did about the same with that boolit. Did real well with the RCBS 225gr SWC with gas check.

I was in such a hurry to get out and shoot this gun I tossed a scope on it real quick and headed outside. When I went to clean it I realized the scope mount was loose. I should've checked it before putting the scope rings on. Oh well, a little blue loctite and a remount. Now if this 2 day rainstorm would move out I'm gonna see how it does. I'm betting it'll do a little better than the original 4".

I like those little guns, but I like them better with Iron sights.

The factory seems to usually use Williams WGOS series rear sights & Williams screw on front sight bases. Midway carries a good selection of those sights. They aren't that hard to install, but they aren't as easy to install as a scope mount is.

I prefer to get them with iron sights from the factory & then decide if they need a scope or not. That's just me though.

I'd buy one of those in a heartbeat. I don't care for the newer heavy 'crowbar' barrels.
And I like to have iron sights. (But please NEF, no Firesights.)

And, from what I read here, NEF could sell a boatload of those barrels in .357.
