I bought a Lyman 311291/170,a couple weeks back. It puts out a really nice slug, with straight wheel weights. It has some size to it,a nice bore riding front end.
I ordered a Lyman 311672/160. When i cast the bullets, with the same alloy as the 170's,the bullet will drop down the bore of my Rem-308,all the ways to the grease groove? It is in no way a bore ridding bullet and i don't like that! Is this how this mold is supposed to be? Any way to make the front end bigger? I've Lee mented a few lee molds,to what i wanted and they turned out well, but they were cheap incase i ruined them! I don't want to ruin an expensive mold!

Try Beagling it.

Beagling (there's a sticky) will not harm a mould and is completely reversible.

I quit Lyman-a lost cause. Three ways to get a good mold to drop a decent size and that's either to beagle, custom mold or have Erik enlarge the bands of the Lyman. You could try lapping the mold but I've not had success with that.
