Greetings :)

I was given a dozen old bars of solder by a friend and was hoping for some confirmation of what I think I've got.

Some are marked ' Warranted Half Half ' which I assume is 50/50.

Some are marked ' The Eagle Picher Lead Co ' and nothing else.
Is this also 50/50 ?

Some are marked ' 6* The Eagle Picher Lead Co. *6 '
The (*) being a five pointed star.
Is this 60/40 ?

Thanks for any help.
Cheers, YV

FWIW,
For lack of feedback or info, I asked the chemist at work if he could do me a favor and perform a density test on some samples for me.
I gave him samples of the 3 types of unknown bar solder and 1 of some 50/50 I had.

Seems like the 'half half' is 50/50, as it tests very close to the known 50/50 I have.
Both the unmarked and the '*6' bars are very close to each other and denser, so I'll just treat them as 60/40.

Cheers, YV

That should be close enough. Now all you need is some lead to mix them with. Any idea what alloy you want to shoot?

If the "6" bars are denser, then it would likely be 40% tin, 60% lead.

I suspect a good scale should differentiate between 50/50 and 60/40. It's a crying shame that stuff is disappearing.
