If you carry a big screw driver when you walk around the parking lot you'll find lots of them.

Fenceing plyers work a whole lot better and you can buy them in the big building next to the Wal-Mart parking lot.

I find channel lock pliers works better combined with the mall parking lot. There are many nuggets there...

The last few years I lived in CA, I was also doing a lot of walking to keep fit. After a while, I had several lucrative routes of 5-6 miles all over town. I picked up more than 10 lbs. every month. Naturally I saved the tireshop parking lots for Sundays. When the shops would throw away junk wheels, I was there with the bottle opener blade of my trusty Swiss Army knife. Don't laugh, 120+ lbs. a year will keep the moulds busy.

There's 2 good SAECO 353's in there. Maybe even enough left over for a C309-150-F. Man, I'm all giddy like a kid on Christmas morning...

If you've got a truck stop nearby, semi's use BIG wheelweights[smilie=1: . Had a former son-in-law that delivered to a place that rebuilt damaged rims. Used to bring me buckets of weights that really hurt to pick up. Almost made me tolerate him. Almost.:Fire:

The kids and I go grocery shopping every Saturday. In the second aisle of the parking lot, 4th parking spot from the end on the right side, there is a medium sized wheelweight embeded deeply in the asphalt.

I cannot walk past that wheelweight without trying to pick it up. To date I have not been successful. The kids think I'm crazy. I now avoid parking in that portion of the lot.

I think if it as my Moby Dick wheelweight. Some night I will have to swing by that parking lot with some tools and extract that damn thing once and for all. If for no other reason than to avoid the pain an humiliation of being foiled by a base metal on a regular basis.

I found a big 10 ouncer at the top of the interstate exit ramp the other day. Wife thought I was crazy for backing up to get it, but I can get over ten 45-70 bullets out of that bad boy. :drinks:

Alchemists are eccentric cranks who putter around trying to change base metals into precious metals via magic, incantations and secret formulas. I stand by my choice of terminology. ;-)

Perchance good sir lead is a base metal, but through the wondrous transformation of casting it can become a boolit, and surely there is nothing base about a boolit, unless it is a plain base or a hollow base, eh? :-D

I do love some of these stories.

My wife and I walked by a loose wheelweight in Wally World parking lot just day before yesterday. As I stooped to pick it up, she grabbed my arm and said "What are you doing?" No you don't, she sez." I came out of the store before she did, and it went home in my pocket.

One of the many ways I know that my wife is one of the best. We were walking across a busy street, hand in hand, when she jerked me to a stop. I looked at her as if I thought she had suddenly gone nuts. She then said, "tire weight." Sure enough, there was a two ouncer I had almost stepped on. Needless to say, that one went home with us.

Just put out the word to the local teenagers of whatever type you have around. Make it clear you don't want any tires, hubcaps, or cars attached. Doubly make sure you keep your car in a locked garage...

My girls are starting to date which brings an idea to mind. I always inspect the suiters for clothes that actually fit, ear rings and their vehicles for good tires, high brake pedal, seatbelts and a full tank of fuel. Maybe I should tell them they need to show up at the house bearing wheelweights as a gift to me for allowing them to date my daughter. The standard could be a 3 gallon bucket gets a 9pm curfew, a 4 gallon gets them 10pm curfew and a 5 gallon gets them 11pm. What do you think?

Robert

3 days per week I ride my bicycle to work about 8 miles each way. I have been known to throw out the anchors and come to a grinding halt in order to recover a wheel weight on the road. Waste not, want not.

They can bring all the 5 gal buckets they want. I will only allow 1 bucket to be used per date. They can "bank" the rest for future use. I feel I will come out ahead on this deal since they do not like the boys after the first date. Now I think about it, I think they should bring 2 buckets full and pay for the second date in advance. I will be sure to let them know about my "no refund" policy....

I have a nephew that works in a local tire shop. His employers sell their wheelweights for cash. Lucky Me! He gets me a bucket so large that the car lift has to pick it up and we back my truck under it to load, for $20. I cant complain. Good Nephew!

While riding bikes with my son today, I came across a 30' section of fake cobblestone that had shaken 3(!) wheelweights off of the cars going over it. I don't think I got them all either. That'll be a regular stop on our rides from now on.

I've got two or three customers who get free w/weights from me. I figure bullet casters must be good people. And one of these guys is my source for pure lead. :)
