I need to have a Ruger MkII bull barrel turned and threaded for a suppressor. Does anyone have a recommendation of someone in Jacksonville Fl and a guess on cost?

Sorry no advise on machinist in FL, but cost wise I've had low $50.00 per hour to 100.00 per hour and it takes about an hour to thead if you have already removed sights and deliver just the receiver & barrel to them to work on. If you want the front sight screw hole set back and threaded you will pay for more time.

Biggest issue is to make sure the Smith/Machinist understands that you want the 1/2x28 class 3 thread concentric with the bore line not the outside of the barrel.

To be honest with Ruger themselves offering a threaded model it might be cheaper to sell yours and buy a new one in the configuration you want.

or just have a second Ruger.

We are in Dade City, an hour and a half or so south of you; routinely do this work for local dealers in class II stuff. If we can help, buzz me at dowarms@earthlin.net

Any machinist with a thread cutting lathe that has an SAE gearbox should be able to do that. Some may shy away from gun related work, but not all do. It is best if you give the machinist the mating part before he starts to cut so that he can match the pitch diameters for the best possible fit.

There are some laws on the books regarding threads on the ends of barrels. You may want to be sure that you know what they are before you start making modifications.

I've seen shop rates as low as $35/hr in parts of FL, but $65 seems more the "going rate" for common work at non-CNC places in most of that state. I'd be careful about bringing anything you like to one of the cut rate shops. That is skilled work.

Gun broker has the Ruger pistol for around $300 which seems like a great deal.

There are people out there that do that sort of thing, and they do it so cheap it is not funny. Just ask on say subguns.com NFA board and you will get a list of people who do it, and do it nicely.
