I got a new 8MM Max mold from Midsouth the other day and got it to run yesterday (after the fight). It drops long and beautiful boolits BUT they are about 25gr heavier, 250gr, than they are supposed to be. Alloy is clip on WW. Anybody got some recipes for loads in an 8mm Yugo 24/47?
I'd like to use Unique, 2400, and 4895.

With that heavy boolit try 10-13 Unique or 13-15 2400, you can work up with these powders just watch for pressure signs.

I'd make a dummy first and see how it chambers. They won't go in some of my 8mms unless seated awful deep.

An alloy that is more lead rich than, say, Lyman #2 will cast a heavier boolit. Mine come in around 245 IIRC. No biggy. Try 13.0 Red Dot, works great in my 48 Yugo.

dualsport, my oh my , you were right about the dummy rounds. The throat of my 24/47 is so short I cannot get reliable feeding at any workable length. I may very well have some other feeding issues with this rifle but the wide meplat of this boolit is just not going to work in this rifle. The 175gr Lee is more pointed and feeds fairly well so I can shoot all I want. I was just gonna try a heavier boolit.

Now I have an excuse to go find a GEW98 with a worn out throat.

My max mold has gone to the 'cool but of no use' section.

Whops, my bad, I have the Karibiner. Works fine in my rifles.

The Maximum is a looooooong boolit. Mine weigh in at 250gr. I've used them in my Turk with worn throat, but they still need to be seated deep. I tried nose sizing them into a 2-diameter boolit, but it didn't group any better despite seating out further. IIRC, I loaded 18-19gr AA5744 and it shot sub 1" at 50 yards.

I've been using the Lee 175 gr that casts WW to 180 gr for me in my Spanish LaCarona 8x57. I built this rifle to 18.5" barrel and am shooting this infront of 27 gr. of 2400 to 2175 fps chronoed. I will be using this rifle/ammo combo for my fall hunting; Nevada mule deer and CA hogs.
