just got in trade the .375 i been coveting for a few years. this is a pre-64 mod 70 and mechanically fit for action. stock needs some tlc but otherwise it is a dandy. i think that this is a '56' model and if so then it would be a birthday gun for me.......tons of great stuff was made in '56'...pickups...cars...this rifle...me...etc...LOL

would like to hear some fav recipes from others here...i have 3 boolit recipe books and 5 other loading books but would like to hear what works best in your rifle.

also does anybody have an idea if this is a 12 twist or a 10?

I also have a `50`s vintage Win. M-70 in .375 H&H. It formerly was used by a road worker in Ak. He retired and moved back down to Mi., but passed on a year later. He son told me that the M-70 was used on every critter in Ak., but was a part of the tools required for a road crew to have with them. Some of the loads I use with good sucess here in the "wilds" of Mi. are as follows.

Lyman #375449 made with 50/50 WQ alloy weighs at 260 gr.
37 gr. AA-5744
CCI Mag. rifle primer

A plinker load.
Lyman #375449 using 50/50 alloy not WQ
23 gr. Blue Dot + small tuft Dacron = about 1600 fps

CCI Mag. rifle primer

I shoot a 310gr boolit over 38.5gr 4759 sparked by a mag primer. Gives 2000 fps and about an inch @100 out of my Ruger #1

Something like Accuate moulds 38-315B is close. My mould is a BRP

Your M70 should be a 12" twist. For "fav recipes" I assume you mean cast but if interested in J bullet loads ask.

My M70 three six bits and several others all likethe Lyman 377449. I cast them out of WW+2% tin and WQ them out of the mould. I size at .377, use Hornady GCs and lube with Javelina. Cases are W-W or R-P and primers are WLRs. I use fire formed cases and neck sizw with a Redding NS die. A Lyman M-die is used to expand the case mouth and a Slight rol crimp is used.

For heavy practice loads I load them over 46 gr 4895 with a 1 gr dacron filler. Velocity is right at 2200 fps and accuracy runs right at 2 moa all day long with the Leupold at 1.5X. This would also make an excellent hunting load but I would mix 50% lead with the WW+2% tin for that use.

A very accurate and pleasant load for practice or hunting deer/pigs, etc. is the same bullet with the softer alloy over 36 gr AA5744 (no filler). This give excellent accuracy at 1850 fps.

A rabbit, hare, grouse, ptarmigan small game load is the Hornady .375 RPB lightly lubed with LLA over 4 gr Bullseye (no filler or wad) for 900 fps and excellent accuracy to 50 yards.

Been working on a PB'd bullet (375248) small game plinking load in the 1000 - 1200 fps range but haven't completed load development. Might even drop the velocity down into the 800 - 1000 fps range.

I also use the 23gr blue dot load but without the filler. It is my go to plinking load.

I used the Lyman 375449 with 50 grains of 3031. Dang accurate and a sure killer on deer.

thanks for all the answers. i also looked up the year of man and am a bit dissapointed that it is a '55' gun not the '56' that i was lead to believe...ho hum ...recon '55' winnys are pretty close to as good as the '56' rifles are...LOL.

i stumbled onto a thought yesterday...what if kinda thing.......black powder and a paper patch boolit...any thoughts for " just the heck of it "?

16 grains unique behind a 250gr rcbs gas checked boolit sparked with a cci 200 regular rifle primer...around 1400 fps and a puff to shoot...very nice load

30 grains rl-7 behind a 330 lyman boolit pb sparked with a 250 cci mag primer... around 1600 fps and again a nice load...started to put some corn meal ahead of this load as fill but thought i remembered something about corn meal and others like it being not a good idea for fill in a bottle-neck case...so just the rl-7 and again a nice load...rings my 8 inch gong very well.

67 grains 4350 imr ahead of a hornaday 300 round nose sparked with a 250 cci mag primer... will get attention on the gong and would handle anything i want here i think...not the hottest load but would be a great hunter for me.

i can see the unique load being used a lot for practice and small game/varmints.......ha,,,a .375 varmint hunter...going to run my 25-06 a race...LOL.

very nice rifle...im very happy with it.
