Hello everyone,

I recently bought a Marlin 1894C, 357 mag.

I fired 50 shoots of :

sellier-bellot 158 gr FMJ TC

Avarange speed 1423 fps (measured with Prochrono)
with good results.

Help me please,

here in Italy I haven't big choice of all the great American powder:

for example:

can i Buy:

Vihtavuori N-110 (here in Rome 1 Kg 85 Euros -> 116 $) very similar at WW 296

WW 296 (almost impossible to find in Rome are perhaps starting to import it again)

Hodgdon 4198 (here in Rome 1 lb 45 euros ->61 $)

Or

Italian Powder: (more cheap 40 euros for 1Kg)

Beschieri e Pellagri PEFL 28: 8,5 gr to 9,2 for 158gr bullet. what do u think?

someone can recommend me some recipe?

Thank you very much!

Best regards!

What bullet type/weight will you be reloading?

here is an example using the 158gr JSP from Speer #14
158gr JSP 1.570-1.575" OAL
Viht N-110 13.5min / 15.0 max
MV: 1565fps/1735fps

Using the Min load would net you about 1140 rounds per kilo of powder or about $0.10 of powder per round.

And come pretty darned close to the Factory load you were using already

I got 1775 fps with a 158 grain XTP using H110 out of my Marlin 1894. Nowadays Hodgdon says this is the same as Winchester 296. Start at the minimum load and work up carefully paying attentions to velocities and pressure signs.

Howdy !

I recommend 14.5gr WW296 and SP Magnum primer, under a notional lead SWC ( Lyman ) of 158 - 172gr.

Worked great in my .357Mag "N"-frames, and also in my 1894SC.

With regards,

Fortunately I found the N-110 Vihtavuori at a good price! Only 68 Euros (Do not laugh!)

And i want start with lee 358-158-RF, if I find too many residues of lead i will buy a mould with gascheck groove.

SP = small pistol

and some casters have reported good results attaching a gas check to the bevel base of a Lee 358-158 RF bullet.

with the N-110 and a 158 grain cast boolit I'd start at about 12.0gr and slowly work up from there to find the best for your gun (max of 15.0gr).

Do u use gas-check?

that depends on how hard the boolit is. If I want a soft/semi-soft alloy for HP bullets then I'll GC them. But for the most part I shoot them plain based.
