I have a Benelli Super Nova in 12 gauge by 3 1/2 inch magnum. The barrel is ribbed. The receiver is not D&Ted.

I have been given a dot sight that is set up to be installed on a Weaver style base. Is there any way to install this sight on this shotgun without D&Ting the receiver? Maybe some kind of adapter base that attaches to the rail?

Funds are limited and the nearest qualified gunsmith is 25 miles away.

Look here, and select Benelli from the drop down list;

It does not say if D&T is required.

Thanks, Nolan. I looked up the part. D&T is required.

Called a gunsmith friend today about getting the receiver of my Benelli D&Ted for a Weaver base. $20 a hole. At four holes to be done, I'm gonna have to rethink this.

Check B-Square.

I got it on. I know better than to think I could D&T the receiver without any problems, so I D&Ted the rib on the barrel. Took my time and went slow.

The sight is set a bit forward compared to what most people would want, but, oddly enough, I kinda' like it the way it turned out.

If the battery--weight--is on top of that red dot sight as it seems to be, you can look for the lever effect and Newton's Law to keep the sight loose as recoil sends the shotgun rearward and the top-heavy sight tends to stay in place.

I don't know what loads you intend to shoot but I had a mossberg 3 1/2 pump. I loaded the butt with shot and with a magazine full, the the 3 1/2 00 buck loads would unscrew your head. You will probably have a problem holding everything together if you shoot it much. there is a reason there are so many 3 1/2 shotguns on the used market.
