Lets say a fellow picked up 15K Remington 9.5 Magnum primers because they were cheap. How about $8.00 per K?

Now, lets say the same fellow wants to use them for general cast bullet shooting with 14 to 20 grains of 2400 in various 30 cal. rifles (30-30, 30-40,.308, 30-06)

This same guy realizes this is not the optimum primer, but with the price of primers going up, they are just beggin to be used.

What would be your advise to this fellow?

Trade for what you do want. That price gives you a definite advantage.

Start at least 2 grains under your previously worked to accurate load. Stop at your accuracte grouping. If it isn't as good offer to trade straight across, magnum primers for stnd at your range, club or shooters you know. when asked how many you have say " I think there is at 1000" unless they offer to do more. Start down a bit and work up your load with them, as you should do when you change anything. Lots of folks use nothing but magnum primers.

Some things I would want to know about this fellow first. Does he like to experiment? Does he like to work up loads? Does he like to do the things people say cannot be done because he knows there is a chance it can be done? If the answer is yes to 2 or more of these, then I would suggest he try them with all the loads and powders that he already has on hand and see what happens!

This "fellow" might find these primers very usefull should he decide to use the current cheap slow surplus powders in the 30 caliber cartridges he now uses.

Well, I use magnum primers in 30s and everything else once powder volume drops below 70% of case capacity.

I think Remington primers of any kind are very uniform and to tell ya the truth, if that's all the store has, I get those. Seems like they might throw a bigger fire up into that big half-empty hole using "position sensitive" powders and light charges they might be a good thing? Sounds like a big SCORE to me.

This fellow should pat himself on the back for such a great find.

At that price, the primers are obviuosly defective. Please send them to me and I'll see that they are properly disposed.

The fellow likes Rem. 9.5 primers and had been buying them a local shop because they had a bunch and had the old price of $20.00 per K on them. Seems like nobody else liked Remington primers, and so the shop put them on sale for half price. This guy offered them $8.00 per K for what they had left and walked out with 15K Rem. 9.5M and 5K Rem. 9.5.

I think I will advise him to just try these with 2400 and see what happens. Souldn't blow anything up, but might have to hunt up the sweet spot again.

45 2.1 broke the code. He really doesn't like asking totaly stupid questions that he thinks he has the answer too, but has a little bit of uncertainity, not being much for tech/science stuff and needs other opinions to help blow the cobwebs out of his brain. There is that little voice that might say.. "Well, any damn fool would have known not to do THAT!!!"
