Would somebody with Quick Load please do some calculations for me?

Cartridge..................308 Win
Boolit.........................312 dia. FP W/GC bore rider
Weight of boolit...195 gr.
Length of boolit....1.013
COAL.........................2.625
Powder......................Alliant Reloader 17

The gun is a commercial Mauser 98 built for Montgomery Wards. The barrel is 22" with 14 twist micro-groove rifling. I have a Norinco 3-9X40 scope on it.(the whole rig cost less than a current copy of Quick Load ;) )

I'd like to get 2400 fps with this boolit. I started at 36 gr. (1920 fps) and have worked up to 38 gr. (2040 fps). So far results look very promising...some very low SD's and groups as good as any I've had with this rifle.

But.........I'm working in uncharted territory for me and I'd like to get a bit more info before I hurt myself.

So, what I want to know is........

What's the pressure of my 38 gr. load?
What powder charge will give me 2200 fps and what will the pressure be?
Ditto 2400 fps.
It looks like 100% load density will be 42 gr., what velocity and pressure can I expect with that load?

Here's the best group so far with this boolit....as a matter of fact the best group ever with this gun! But then, one three shot group doesn't mean much.

I really appreciate any help you can give me.

Here you go...

Pretty close correlation to your numbers.

Looks like a little over 40gr for 2200fps and 44ish for 2400fps.

Cartridge : .308 Win.
Bullet : ?? .308, 190, LYM LSp GC 311334

Barrel Length : 22.0 inch or 558.8 mm
Powder : Alliant Reloder-17

Jerry

Maybe not.

BUT IT SURE DOES FEEL GOOD! DON'T IT?

Thanks Kelbro. That's exactly what I was looking for. I'll work up to 40.5 gr. tomorrow then decide if I want to go any further.

Yes William, it feels VERY good. :cast_boolits:
