I wonder if there is enough interest in Miha making either a 4 cavity brass .457 Round Ball mold for the Ruger Old Army or possibly one with two different type cavities - i.e. two .457 Round Balls and two conicals?

(As a newbie this may have been circulated before...)

If you do not mind, I would like remind you of the design of heavier boolit I already made. I understand your desire of having .457 ball. There are many other replicas of old C&B revolvers and in that respect I think that having 2 ball and two heavier boolits is an excellent idea. However, I would go one step further and consider three possibilities;

4x .457 round ball
2x .457 round ball + 2x .457 heavier boolit
4x .457 heavier boolit

As for moulds as mentioned above, of course, Miha has to agree to produce them in such combinations.

To be honest, I cringe when somebody shooting such wonderful and strong revolver like ROA as a peashooter (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U0AI_ioSPlc&NR=1). Look how ROA shoots when loaded (original thread http://www.rugerforum.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=113059) with right boolit to it’s full potential (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IQVu3d3NpxU). After several different designs, I came to conclusion that the best design, with heavier boolit that would give maximum powder space for its weight is not conical like Lee, but rather LBT, actualy WFN (Wide Flat Nose) style. See what Marshall Stanton from Beartooth Bullets proposed (http://www.shootersforum.com/showthread.htm?t=2414). I ended up with 260 grains one, tad heavier than Marshal proposed , in order to have a same potential as original 45 Colt with black powder. This weight still gives decent powder space, and heavier boolit has the edge on bit longer distances (for handgun), and better penetration on tough game like boar.

This boolit has a reduced dia at the bottom for easier loading and two grease grooves, but it could also be used with one or two O-rings as a gasket to prevent moisture from getting in, to prevent crossfire between chambers on front end, and also those O-rings will work as additional holding device to prevent boolit from moving forward under recoil. There are some other designs I made, see whole thread here http://castboolits.gunloads.com/showthread.php?t=118196 . Another must-see is this thread http://castboolits.gunloads.com/showthread.php?t=34668 .

Let me know what do you think. Regards.

Onty,

Before I posted I did I search and read of the previous posts on the forum. The Stanton bullet design looks good. (Heck, better than good, how about awesome...)

I hope there is enough interest to get a Group Buy going for Mihec.

Thanks for your response.

I'm really looking for a combo mold. Can this be done?

If you think on RB and "conical" then the answer is NO :-(

MiHec,

Thank you for your input. Always good to be able to ask the "voice of experience". Easy to say isn't always easy to do.

So when are we going to get some aluminum 6 cavity round ball moulds? Pretty sure I could get a list at least 30 strong for .454. Should I start an interest list?
