I've been trying to find some use for some DP85, an Accurate surplus powder I got some time ago. I've tried it in a variety of calibers, the stuff burns pretty dirty unless you have the pressure up there. In fact I couldn't use it in my 6x45 AR with cast because of unburned granules falling back into the chamber. Today, I think I might have found a combination that works pretty good in my Krag. I've had this Puf-Lon stuff for awhile too, l think it's somewhat like the DP85, some cartridges like it, some don't.

Anyway, using 37.5gr of the DP85, and enough Puf-Lon to fill the rest of the case to where there was just a little compression when I seated the bullet. I got a pretty good group, at a fairly impressive speed. The group was 2.3" tall by 1.3" wide, shot at 100yds. First shot was the bullseye, from a cold barrel. Without it, the 9 shot group would have been 1.45"x1.3" I was shooting the Eagan MX2-30H that weighs 178.6gr, checked and lubed. Velocity with the Puf-Lon was 2172fps, ES 54, SD 16.4. I'll reduce the powder charge a bit and see if it gets any better.

I shot the same load without the Puf-Lon and velocity was 2080, ES 58, SD 23.4. The group, as you can see, was more of a pattern. Some cartridges seem to like the Puf-Lon, some don't. I'd used it in my 6x45 and accuracy got worse with it, despite a lowered ES and SD. Same thing with a load both with and without the Puf-Lon that I tried in my K31 today.
