Any Pedersoli percussion Sharps shooters out there? I'm looking for info on the best alloy to use for casting ringtail boolits for my 1863 Sporter. I just bought one of Pedersoli's moulds.

Thanks in advance.

Go with roofing lead. Worked real well in mine.

Try pure lead with about 5% tin. Tin hepls to fill out the mold cavity.

If you are using real BP, anything from pure Pb, to 50/50 Pb/WW.

I have an IAB so you may get different results but I have tried a few different things however soft lead and sized to .002 over seems to be what mine likes.

I use stickon wheel weights (soft lead) with a little tin added to help them fill out the mold better.

As far as I could find out, a paper cartridge as I make them meets the standard for Indiana's "pistol"caliber rifle season. Restricted to stright wall and 1.6 inch in length. Indiana requires loaded from the muzzle for muzzleloading.
