If it's the came, it's almost prue lead. If it is bits & pieces w/ joints, there is some tin in there from the solder. My wife used to do the sg thing & I got all the little scraps.

Some of it is from old windows, that were being repaired and some is shiney new.
Will it be ok to cast 308 win bullets, the way it is or should i mix something into it?I do have some tin on hand.

The came will be soft lead. The joints are soldered and have quite a bit of tin in them. I cut the soldered joints out when i get any and smelt them seperate and use to alloy. I smelt the came with most any soft lead i have like sheet, plumbing joint rings, cable sheathing etc... 10 ga

Pure lead. Probably to soft for rifle boolits, but sized properly and gas-checked, who knows.
They'd be great for pistol or black powder.

I melted some down today. I cast a few 30 cal from it with my lyman 311291 mould. They came out small and very soft. I can push my thumb nail into the side of the bullet!
I feel that i would like it to be a little harder. Like i was told, here,it must be pure lead? Any mixing ideas? I have lino, wheel weights and some pure tin,on hand.

Mixing it 50/50 with lino will give you hardball (2% tin, 6% antimony).

For rifle I would try straight wheel weight and save that soft lead.
If it's too hard, then cut it down with the soft.

That soft mixed 50/50 with wheel weights makes a great alloy for hollow point pistol loads, among other things.

As stated, it's almost pure lead. I did, however buy some from a foundry once. The recipe's may vary a bit, but he said his formula was .06% copper, .45% antimony, and the rest was lead. That would make his formula 99.49% lead. Ron.D
