Just bought 1200 rounds of .45 Colt ammo loaded with 250gr Lead SWC. Light cowboy loads. All loaded in what looks to be new R-P nickel cases. All packed in 100 round MTM plastic boxes.
Cost...$125

Yap you did good!!! BUT do you trust the person that loaded that ammo?

I would pull a few boolits(10-15 from random boxes) and check the amount of powder in them,
you won't know what powder it is but you will get a idea if the loads are safe.

Yep. Did that. They all have 6 grains of a small flake powder.

$0.10 each is even cheap just for brass alone. You got free bullets, primers, powder, and ammo boxes to boot!

Keep a close eye on those R-P Nickel cases. I was given 100 a a while back that were once fired. 3 split just in the initial case sizing. Maybe I just got a bad batch.

............Yup me too, but my nickle 45 Colt was purchased 7-8 years ago. I bought 500 cases to go with a Stainless Vaquero. Each box of 50 would have 3-4 split at the first firing. Next time around I'd get 2-3. They're to the point now (have about 300 left) where I'll lose 1-2, or maybe even none but from tiny cracks at the casemouth. No more wholesale split cases.

You might have to get your nose right up to the screen to see the splits, but they're all on the right, in the middle of the bright reflection streak. The worst were the initial first firing cases. They'd split almost all the way down to the solid head.
