Old Winchester 44-40 1873

An old Buddy of mine's Father passed away and while they we're dividing up his estate they came across a wooden truck full of guns...
This old Winchester 44-40 1873 is just 1 of them.
It is marked Winchester 1873 on the upper tang and has a 9XX on the lower tang.
The bareel is marked Winchester, NewHave Conneticut

The bluing is 85% or better but the lever is pretty rusted and pitted. also the right side of the reciever has some light rust and possible pits...the barrel is 24" octagon and has real good sharp clean rifling except right at the muzzle where it gets worn...the stock has no cracks fore or aft but someone carved 4 notches in the top of the cheek piece and it has several good dings both fore and aft...
He wants to selll it and I'm trying to come up with an Idea of what it is worth????

If it has a three digit (9XXX) serial number it should have a thumbprint dust cover. From what I can see of it, it should bring between $1,500 - $3,000, depending on condition of bore and the usual parameters.

I have no idea of it's value, but what a wonderful find and looks to be in excellent condition!

That 1873 is a beauty! And it's in the most desirable caliber.

I would love to see what else came out of that box!!!

Well we have had many experts look at it and the detemination is....
It is a refinished 2nd Model that is complete...so value ain't what he was hopin' for..:drinks:
The other guns included a Luger w/holster and magazines.
1917 Enfield not matching.
250-3000 99 savage.
