looking for one of these for a long time.

Now he has it ! !

Good find! If it works like it should in your friend's gun, send it (or some accurate measurements) to Tom at Accurate Molds and have him make multi-cavity copy of it in brass, that way the design can go on forever!

Ben:: I have had this one since i dug it out of a neighbors trash when I was 14. It had the handles attached too.

I think it is the bevel based equivalent to the one you show. It is in the same condition as yours even though the pics don't really showit. My 2.1 mpix camera.

Thanks to the perceptive eye of NVcurmudgeon, I was the grateful recipient of the two-banger Lyman #311419 a few years back. It is a very well-behaved tool, and castings fall free readily at .313" in 92/6/2 alloy.

My only concern about the design--as yet untested--is whether its relatively light lubricant load would suffice in rifle-length barrels. It is The Boolit for the 7.62 x 25 Tokarev, and its flat nose makes a delightful THWOCK on jackrabbits. Yes, the gas check usage makes the cost meter run faster. Oh, well. The boolits shoot well from the CZ-52 and TT-30/33. The loads hang up once in a while in the C-96.

These boolits also run well in the 30 Luger barrel that I have for my Ruger P-89X. I have been a bit immature here......using the stiffer 9mm recoil spring with this barrel, and pouring enough AA-7 powder into W-W 30 Luger casings to enable 1450 FPS. There is safe room for a bit more powder, but why gild the lily? These loads are accurate--LOUD--and tear the daylights out of varmints. I would run these at coyotes with complete confidence, after seeing their results on jackrabbits. 85 grain XTPs explode them--these 95 grain flatnoses shred them, and keep going. Louder than Hell's Own Drum Line, too.

What about in the 7.62x38r, the old Nagant revolver needs love too.

Anyone want to guess the age of this mold ?

Well it's vented Ben, so not that old. Venting started post War, didn't it?

If your friend got that off eBay he almost didn't. I kinda liked it and almost went after it. 'Course he mighta out bid me, too. Nice looking mould, isn't it. What does it cast at, do you know yet?

Cat,

I should cast with it tomorrow. I"ll try and update the post with a progress report tomorrow.

He wanted me to bid for him and I said no......I told him that I didn't know how deep his pockets were.

I'm sure it would work fine, though the need for a gas check at Nagant pressures is kinda superfluous.

It would work well in one of my 32-20 revos, I'm sure--Colt SAA Bisley with .311" throats. My S&W M&P has .314' throats, so I dunno. Probably. Same deal with my S&W 16-4 in 32 Mag, .314" throating.

Ben: I am 61 so yes I've had it for 45 years. It's one of those things that has been in my gun stuff boxes for along time. I actually cast some boolits from it in my 1975-80 gun nut flurry, and had the good sense to slather it with oil when I got done. I believe it makes 110-115 gr boolits and as I remember they came out complete, but I've never loaded or shot one.

The guy who threw it away actually had a Colt Revolver in 32-20, but didn't have enough sense to keep the mould that went with it. He was an across the street neighbor and I spotted the mould laying on top of the trash can on my way to school one day. Snatched that one up post haste.

I only removed it from the handles and put it in it's own box a few months ago, when a friend gave me a Lyman 358 Keith Style 173 gr SWC mould, which I needed handles to try out.

I have never gotten that 38 cal mould to produce a single usable boolit. They are all out of round .006! and very difficult to get a complete fill on the mould.

I'm actually going to try Beagling this mould, as the short side is in the across the parting line position, not in line with the parting line so it should work.

Then I'll have to get a.38/.357 something to go with the 600+ once fired cases I have in the bottom of the cabinet.

If You/He doesn't want to use that gas check mould all the time, maybe we could work something out on this 32-20 one. I'm in no way married to it!

Randy,

Thanks for your offer.

He has access to several 100 gr. plus, 32-20 molds. He really wanted this " fly weight " mold to try. This will give him something to experiment with now................

I got outside and cast with the mold today. Bullets run a " shade " over .313". I've got my friend over 100 bullets , lubed, sized 313" and ready to load.

+1 on the disgustingly good looking boolits. they did come out real nice.

No problem on the 311-11 mould I keep it for another 45 years. It will be available again when I'm 106!

Ben--

If that partner of yours' 32-20 is a RIFLE--I'd be keenly interested in hearing how things run in the longer barrel. Of course, I could just fire up the furnace and pour some more and give them a test-drive......but that would conflict with my settled and sedentary nature.

I know--OFF AND ON, lazy-butt.

I never liked it because such a small bullet with a GC seems a waste and was a pain to process for little gain at teh velocities i was shooting (1200-1400) .Now that i am playing with the 762 x 25 Tokarev i wish i had it back.

IIRC I have one of those in a SC in the locker. Sad to say I've never even warmed it up. A decade back you could get them on Ebay for $20.00 or so. Not anymore! I think I got that mould to try and duplicate the old 32-20 rifle hi vel load. The Lee Soup Can would be a close match if Lee would cut them a couple thou fatter.
