4 military rifles went out today:
Spanish M.43 Mauser
Persian 33 Mauser
K-11 Swiss
1898 Krag

The 8mms first- both using the same loads:
175 Lee with 12 gr Trail boss
175 gr Lee with 18 gr 2400
210 gr NOE with 50 gr WC 872

All ACWW with felix lube.

Both did best with the 2400, though the stubby carbine did surprisingly well with the 872 load. The trail boss was just ok. 2400 held about a 1" group from the Persian at 50 yards, the Spanish is a little thrashed, it did about 4" with the worn muzzle and pitted bore.

The K11 got the same Trail boss and 2400 loads with a Lyman 311291. These were double lubed in 2 coats of LLA. The 2400 once again did great, about a 1.5" group. While this mold has proven horrible in my K31 with the short throat, the earlier 1911 and earlier series usually do quite well with it. I might try sizing to .309 as the bore on this gun is a .3075" and I was using my standard .311" sizing, where I usually start with most 30 calibers.

The Krag got 23 and 27 gr of 4198 with the same mold, also with LLA. The 23 gr load shot about 2" but the 27 shot a lot of flyers and lightly leaded the bore. Switching to WQWW plus felix might solve this- I have to mix up another batch which is why I was playing with the LLA to start. I find it tends to run out with 2000fps loads in a LONG rifle like the Krag, with little or no lube star on the muzzle. The 23 gr load didn't lead though, so that was fine.

A fine sunny, calm day.

I bet that 872 load is a flame thrower in the carbine! LOL.

Yes, kind of. Also dirty, even with a mag primer and the bullet seated right on the powder. Runs about 1850 fps though the SD is good. Might try a small SR 4759 kicker.
