I have seen on Predator Master forum and other forums that the Sharps Rifle Company is going to legitimize the 25/233 with SAMMI. Apparently this similar to the 300 Blackout story. The Sharps round will have head stamp of 25-45 Sharps. Supposely there is joint deal with Federal to produce brass and loaded ammo to be marketed by Sharps. They are pitching this round for the AR platform.

My question to this group, HOW DO YOU SEE THIS ROUND A CAST BULLET SHOOTER?

Ballistics close to 250 Savage but with less powder?

Let me have your thoughts.

Just a bit bigger than my 6x45. I don't know about the rifling on a 25cal, but when you get to the point where the rifling is only .002" tall, and radiused to boot. It seems to take some special care. 80gr is about the max bullet weight in 6mm without putting the base of the bullet below the neck/shoulder junction, if you want to stay within magazine length. Just a wild guess, probably 90gr for the 25 cal. My cast in an AR adventures so far: http://castboolits.gunloads.com/showthread.php?t=121224

Their marketing (on the boxes) seems to indicate they are marketing a .250-3000 (.250 Savage), though with modern powders it will take less powder to get to the 3000 fps with the 87 grain bullet. I see they are going with a 1:10 twist, so they won't have problems with heavier bullets/boolits barrel wise - but the case is a different story there.

Kinda seems like an answer in search of a problem. Time will tell whether it is a .243 or a .244/6mm Remington.

This project took place either in response to or concurrently with several other wildcats over on a couple of the AR boards. there were a couple longer whisper/fireball/blackout rounds being made up to take advantage of lighter bullets higher velocities than the subsonic projects used ( 7x40 recently adopted by bill wilson etc) and since it was a wild cat and several calibers were tried ( 6.5 6.8 etc etc ) and everyone has their own "pet" bore the 25 was mentioned ... it was compared to the "standard" 25-223 and then it was presented to SAAMI. no particular problem or need to be solved simple a matter of what about a 1/4 bore ? i mean I prefer .357 to .355 and it is hard to argue one over the other in 6.5/270/7mm debate. just a personal preference... some one WANTED a 25 and several people chimed in there was a group buy on barrels and here we are ......

I did not mean to imply the x40 version was submitted to SAAMI it is actually just a standardized 25-223 at the ( as the name implies ) x45mm length. By my understanding, a particular gunsmith /manufacturer wanted a standardized chamber is all.

Also I think the original Title of this thread is Typo'd shouldn't it read 25-45 ? 22 kinda implies a 22 cal wildcat on the .223 kinda redundant ;-P

I came to the thread wondering how in the world one of the .45 Sharps cases could be necked down to .22 and still fit in an AR. Well, there is a .50 BMG single shot to put on an AR lower. Hmmm - a .22/45-120? I think maybe overcapacity.
