375 sized down to 366

I was just wondering if I should expect any problems sizing down the lee 375 down to 368 (from as cast 279)
I had to use both a 375 and 368 lee size dies, but they look real good and I was wonding if anyone has had good luck with a sized down lee in a 9.3x62. Maybe even a load range or powder preference the 9.3 shows for cast. I have seem to be leaning towards R-7 over 3031 and 5744. I havent done much load development to this point. However, I did have some trouble with the presure being a bit not sealing the neck.

It's worth a crack. I know some of our members do some pretty hefty sizing using Lee push through dies. Lots of lube to begin with.

That's kind of a big move, especially if your alloy is a bit hard. You might need to do it in 2 or 3 steps. Even then, you may loose your lube grooves, especially if the boolit is a tumble lube design. Sometimes, filling the lube groove with lube before you size will help to preserve the groove through multiple passes in the sizing dies.

.............acsteve, without a doubt the most accurate sizing, if sizing has to be done is in a push through nose first die. The main problem is the depth of the lube groove of the doner boolit as it compares to the bore it's to be shot through. For instance a good slug to use in the 8x56R Steyr is either the Lee C338 - 210 - 2R and the RCBS 33 - 205. The only real problem with the Lee is that the lube grooves are ~ .316" which is the very common bore diameter for the 8x56R.

It's obvious then that the LG's could very well bottom out, but I HAVE shot that slug in my M95's to fairly good effect, but at higher velocities the barrel is a dull gray. The RCBS's design has LG's of .300", so even after engraving there's room for lube, but it does have 2 problems. One is the fact that RCBS moved it to their 'Specialty Mould' section and as a consequence it's a bit spendier.

I had a M1909 Argentine Cav Carbine with a bore & groove of .304" x .314", and I was having a heckuva time. There were no 'Fat 30' boolit designs at the time with noses that large, nor Loverin designs. So I used the Lyman 323470 which is intended for the 8mm rifles and is a Loverin (It's NLA BTW). I lube-sized it .323" and then ran it up through a Lee .314" die, and it was easy as could be to do. Loading it up into the 7.65x54 cases, the hard to please Argentine began shooting very well.

I have taken some .379" down to .368". Accuracy was better if I took them down to .375" and lubed them in my lyman 450, then the push thru to .368"

ACSteve-maybe you should dump that 9.3 for a more common caliber. I have an older model Mossberg I'd be willing to trade. Think it over , Proven accuracy and no more messing around trying to find a bullet that works.

I take .459 down to .451 and .311 down to .3015 with a push through die all the time for paper patching. One step, works fine.

The 9.3x62mm has been around longer than the 30-06, it has taken all African DG and is a great cartridge to use.

On a serious note, I have seen a resurgence in popularity of this cartridge in Australia. There are quite a few jacketed bullets available from 193gn-320gn

I have the group buy 9.3 from NOE and have recently ordered a mold from Accurate Molds in .358" for my 686 and .368 for another cast boolit option for my 9.3x62

acsteve You are using a LEE mold now contact them about cutting the right size mold for you. I do think you will be fine with your resized bullets as long as you have enough depth in your lube groove left. (to hold lube )

I've taken .45's down to .40, .375's down to .360, and .360's down to .323 with little problem. Definitely fill the lube grooves first and do it in more than one step if possible. A little jpw on the nose seems to help steer 'em straight also. Regards, Woody
