My 1895 had a one-piece firing pin when I bought it. It gave some misfires, so I replaced the hammer spring and all was OK until recently, when it began misfiring again. I pulled the firing pin out and it was obviously bent at the business end. Straightening it was easy--the metal seemed pretty soft. So I decided to replace it with a regulation Marlin 2-piece firing pin. But now I realize the I don't know how to install the little spring that holds the rear pin out of alignment until the bolt is locked. I'd appreciate it if somebody who knows can tell me which end of that spring goes where, how it is oriented, and so forth. The diagram in the Marlin manual shows these parts too small to be of much help. Thanks!

Not sure this will help but it does have a good parts list and diagram. If not do a search over there.
