is it just me or was there a lack of oxidation for a 15-0 odd year old chunk of lead .... if it sells im gonna bury a few in the back yard for a retirement fund

That is not oxidized enough to be from the Civil War. I have authentic battlefield boolits from Gettysburg and they are solid chalky white. I have also studied many Civil War Boolits besides my own. The offering on ebay appears fraudulent.

Ditto to what Gary said. I've never seen lead from the Civil War era not a chalky white color. It may be from the Civil RIGHTS era... :Bright idea:

Let me say that you may be the first to own a piece of authentic lead from the colonial era! I have in my possession a chunk of lead that was smelted in England in the 1700s and shipped to the Americas on board the Mayflower as ballast. It was intended to be used to make musket balls to repel savage indians and hunt for turkeys but instead it fell into the water near Sutters Mill. It was only recovered during channel dredging and found in the spoils pile. This historic artifact still bears the stamp from the foundry in Olde England, the world famous Leeman lead refiners. The bar is segmented to be divided with a hatchet and melted over a campfire. This portion of the ingot is the top part so it says ...LEE...the part that says ...MAN... was not recovered. I am willing to let this ingot go for the low low price of $99 with FREE Shipping!

Seems all one would have to do is dig a hole in the back yard ,then pour lead in and cover, run the sprinkler on it for a while till desired patina is achieved.
I see a possibility of some serious money as long enough rubes are available.

Where's the facepalm smilie when you need it? Obviously not a guy who knows anything about Swedes. To be honest, I didn't know either until I got my Husky M/38 but that was fifteen years ago.

I suspect that this eBay poster has an unlimited supply of these RARE bars of lead! I'd stay away at anything over $1.00 per pound!

Any time you read "I was told...." in a description on eBay, it is a dead giveaway that they do not know anything about the item that is for sale. It is also a great out for them later. "I said that, but I was told...."

My call, avoid the temptation to buy THAT bar!

Or do as I do, avoid ALL temptation to ever log onto eBay.

Just my way of completely avoiding fraudulent eBay sellers. Works quite well actually, they haven’t got me yet.

IF the lead was that old it could fetch that price because of the low radiation it WOULD have in it. but that is a big if isnt it lol.

WOW. along with that old lead we get a course on how to make boolits

I have lead that is older than that stuff, mine was mined by the emperor, Augustus. and brought here by Columbus traded to Pocahontas for fur and meat then sold to some Norwegian and passed down to me through many generations. It still had Caesar's mark on it until i made some boolits out of it, really!

Somewhere I heard of lead that was cast before the atomic age being valuable to laboratories. Thats all I remember but might be worth some research. Any one know more?
