I'm going to buy a .22LR revolver to carry when I go 'coon huntin'. I picked out a Taurus model 94B5, the 5" barrel model.

I think this revolver is going to do fine for what I want. It's light, has a decent grip, I can switch between short and long rifle ammo and it has adjustable sights.

I have a dealer friend trying to sell my .223 bolt rifle for me. As soon as that's done, I'll pick up the revolver he's holding for me.

Make sure it fires reliably. Know someone who bought a new one that didn't, even after it was returned to the factory.

If I am remembering correctly there was a thread on this board a while back on Taurus .22 revolvers. I think it was in the gunsmithing section. It might be worth your while to do a search and read it.

Search for taurus, 22, and Molly. I believe that as a caster i can shoot 32 long for less than 22. 100 gr cast,10 lbs, 1000 primers $25, 3.5 gr Red Dot 1/2 lb from an eight lb keg $9. 22's from Walmart run $18.50 per 525 or $39 for 1050. that is $37.05 for 1000. Cast cost is $34 + lead so if you bought or scrounged lead for less than 30 cents a lb you are ahead. That gives you a game bullet that is 2.5 times the weight of the 22, the diameter the 22 hopes to expand to and close to the same velocity as the 22 lr from a revolver. Your only disadvantage is having to pick up your empties. 32 Longs are out there, I just bought a older S&W HE from the 50's for $280 + shipping. It shoots well though with a faoux ivory grip and nickle it resembles the original pimp gun.

One of the primary reasons I want a .22 revolver is so I can shoot shorts. My dealer friend called me at noon today to tell me he sold my rifle for me. The revolver will come home with me Monday afternoon.

I've got a stainless version of that same revolver, but in .32 magnum. It's done good by me. So good in fact that I've looked at the .22 version pretty seriously.

I have the 4inchmorning blue 94 and am stuck with the ***. You can find my story here in the forum. I would go the 32 route if I could do it again.

Owned my share of Taurus .22's. The only "good" one I ended up with is a stainless .22 mag. I think it has a 4 inch barrel. Good shooter, decent trigger pull.

The others I've owned............well, lets just say they were sold off pretty quick. Frankly they are not worth the risk to see if you end up with a good one or not. Just buy a S&W 617 and be done with it:)

I have a stainless version, 4". The trigger is pretty bad, double action feels like it's about 20#. Single action isn't great at all, but does fine for a plinker and for teaching new shooters.

Other than the trigger, it's gone bang every single time, and is a great little plinker. I'm sure it'd do just fine on small game.

Why not look for a S&W K-22?? Can't think of a finer .22 revolver.

Or if the 4" version appeals... Model-18 Smith.
