Hello guys. I have been looking around for a mold for my rifles but want to make sure I get the proper mold. This mold will be used in my Marlin 336 in 35 Rem and my A-bolt in 35 Whelen. The mold I am considering is Accurate's 36-240a. I think the shape and length will work better in the 336. What do you think? Also, for shooting the 336 would pins be a bad idea so I could lighten up the boolit a bit, and HP's do look really cool.

thanks
micky

I had really good service from a 30 year old Lyman 358315 in a custom 35W, wish I still had the rifle, but I do have the mold still.

IMO it's really hard to beat the RCBS 35-200FN GC for a 35 rifle boolit. 35 Rem, 358, 35 Whelen, even in 357 Mags, it simply works. No worries about length for function, about twist rates, about game performance. IT's simply a good design, maybe not the best, but very good.

Yep, very very good. I have shot 60x60 in 200m Revolver Master Class State Championships with a 9" FA 357 and this bullet. It is indeed an outstanding design.

Happy days are here, I got a 5 cav NOE in this bullet design. I don't think he has any more at the moment but it is such a good bullet and NOE is such a great mold there will probably be more.

EDIT: Just checked, he's sold out, looks like just a month ago. http://castboolits.gunloads.com/showthread.php?t=114580

I have that very mold
it works wonders on deer
I also have the RCBS version
if I had to choose between the two I would
choose Toms boolit because of weight and meplat
I use it in a 358 win.......

Both my 35 Rem Contender pistol and my 35 Whelen rifle shoot the RCBS 200 gr extremely well. I have the 358315, the 358318, and the 358009 also but keep coming back to the RCBS 200. I consume more of the 200's than all the others combined.

My issue is this... I will hopefully be taking this rifle on a moose hunt in Norway next year. A moose being the size of a half ton truck I would like to shoot a heavier boolit. I really like Tom's mold but I have to admit I just like playing with hollow points. Any reason? No, I just like them. After sending a few emails back and forth I want Tom's mold but it doubles the price to have pins installed by someone else. That is my rub.

If it were me, I'd prefer a non-hollow point for game as large as a moose. I'd seek deep penetration. Others think the way they do, I think the way I do. Can't remember off hand the mould designation, but there is a bullet, refered to as "A Bullet For All Seasons" by Glen Fryxell. (forgive his misspelling of boolit). Check one of the stickeys here for a list of the articles he has written with the LASC. It's a great boolit - 220 grains, flat meplat, gas checked. He lists load development for your cartridge. Great resource! Also, I love the RCBS 35-200. Just another fantastic boolit.

Here is the link to that article:

Or in html:

I concur, a flat point (solid) for deep penetration for something as large as moose.

make and cast soft point boolits
fairly easy and work well from what I hear tell
run a search on them

If you are going to cast your own, I'd give a good look at Ranch Dog Outdoors.

He has a 35 Bullet, 190 gr RNFL gascheck that works for both 35 Remington and 35 Whelen.

The hollow points would be for fun. I would load it solid for moose.

I have taken moose and it was the best meat I ever had. They are not that hard to kill if you place your shot correctly. I used a 7x57 mauser with a 160 grain bullet, a 200gr solid lead boolit in a 35 remington should work very well. Proper shot placement is number one. Expect a one shot kill if done right.
