i came across some rolls of this ,is it any good for casting?

60% tin/ 40% lead. Will work fine to increase the tin content of your lead or wheelweights.

what about the acid core? will it mess up the mix? thanks

dd If you go to walmart they carry little stainless condiment cups real cheap. Melt the solder in one and than rinse in water with some baking soda added to neutralize the acid. Doing it this way will prevent the acid from harming your casting pot. This really needs to be done out side and do not breath the vapors.

The acid is zinc cloride and will have trace zinc in the solder but its so little that it is not a problem.
I second using something other than your good smelting tools for the first melt. The zinc-cloride flux will tin just about anything.

Make sure you melt acid core solder outside as was stated above. It is real nasty if you are not upwind. But you can cook it off and have some good solder to add to your melt.
