I would like to know which boolit size is cast the most by CB Members. Handguns only. I myself am casting for 9mm which I have been informed is not a very popular size to cast. How about the rest of y'all? :lovebooli

38/357 is all I cast and 99.9% of what I shoot. The rest is .22 long in a Ruger semi-auto.

I thought for sure the answer would already have been
.
.
.
.
.001" over bore diameter! :bigsmyl2:

Right now I cast for 9MM
38/357
40/10MM
.44
.45
.45 cap and ball
.50 muzzleloader
and soon
.500 S&W
If most popular is most lead sent downrange it is .40/10MM
If most fun per bang then .44
but they're all fun.
I have so many boolits cast, I'm trying to think of ways to use 'em up so I can cast more.
Is there a Caster's Anonymous? :takinWiz:

Most popular size is either a 44 or 45. I cast for 357,44, 45, 500, 512. Out of those the hands down leader in pure numbers is the 45cal. followed by the 512".

Over the years I have cast more 38s than anything. May not be my most shot in any one month of year but over the years it wins, easily.

Kind of an answer to a different question that I think you are asking between the lines.

The two easiest pistol cartridges to load cast boolits for are generally thought to be the 45-ACP and 38-spl. A complete newbie with just a little bit of guidance can usually get his first home cast boolits to shoot within acceptable standards on his first try with those two and it doesn't take much more work to get them to shoot cast as good or better then jacketed.

For rifles the 30-30 is about in the same line.

I started casting 9mm then 45 acp. I get a real pleasure when mining, casting, loading and shooting them.

In order of number cast:
.44 Cal. by far (Lyman 429421, Lyman 429244, Lee 240 SWC T/L, Ranchdog 265 RFNGC)
.38 Cal. (Lyman 357446, Lyman 358091, Lee 158 SWC)
.45 Cal (Lyman 452374)
.432" Round Ball (Wrist Rocket Ammo)

I think my mold would tell it best
Lyman 4 cavity in 9MM, 357 GC, 45ACP
Lyman 2 Cavity in 45LC
RCBS 2 cavity in 40S&W and a 38 Spc,
The rest are 2 cavity Rifle. But it would be a toss up between 9MM and 45Acp. Those semi-autos eat the lead up fast.

Mavrick

I'd have to say that in pure production numbers, the 175grTC boolit for a .40 S&W from a 6-holer and the 230grRN for the .45Auto from a 4-holer would most likely. For the "fun gun" the several 210grSWCs(with their cousins, the 200grSWCHP in the same molds) for the .41s would be the winner.
I got a GBmold a bit ago, a 4-holer, for a boolit that comes from a speedloader into my M58 S&W for rapid-fire competition, but I haven't cast a lot with it yet. I'll wait 'til I have settled on a load, for production.
Welcome to the addiction.
Have fun,
Gene

I would love to have the amount of lead that I've cast and sent down range since 1970. I started with the 38/357 then quickly added other calibers as follows, 45ACP, 41Mag, 44Spec/Mag, 45Colt, 30Herrett, 40S&W, and 9mm. I keep a Dillon 650 busy loading for myself, son, and a couple of grand kids. Lead is getting hard to find these days and only have 3 five gallon buckets of WW's on hand. Forgot the Ruger 30Carbine, cast for that as well.

35 Cal - 38 & 357
41 Mag
44 Special, 44 Mag
45 ACP, 45 Colt

Which one gets used the most is always switching around but the 357 Mag would nearly always be at or near the top, of late the 308 Win has been sending quite a few down range. The 30 Carbine Ruger is my newest revolver and has been getting a lot of use, what this gun with a 130 gr HP does to a ground squirrel is simply amazing.
