Yesterday I bought a Marlin 336SC in 35 Remington. Made in 1952 in very nice condition. I've been looking for a nice Marlin in 35 Rem for a couple of years now so I'm really happy with finding this one.

I'm hoping someone here has some experience shooting this cartridge. I'm thinking that with the velocity this rifle is capable of RFN bullets in the 180-200 grain range are probably best for hunting black bear and deer. If any of you have any experience and/or load data you'd like to share...any recommendations are appreciated...thanks.

I "had" the exact same rifle as yourself ! 336SC circa 1952 !

I shot the RCBS 35-200GC in that rifle first . Had a Lyman peep on the back and used the factory front sight . My records indicate I shot a doe at 47 yards with this gun and the deer made it approx 15 yards after the shot and was dead when I got to it !

I pushed the RCBS 35-200GC with 13 grains of SR4756 which by no means is more then a medium load at best .

Later I tried the Ranch Dog 359-190GC in both this rifle and a Marlin 336D and they both liked it . Just don't have the data I used for that one anylonger . And since I never killed a deer with that combo it's not in my deer kill ledger .

Skook: I too picked up a nice, 1950s, 336 - .35 Rem at a local gun show. Another member was kind enough to trade me some RCBS-35-200-FPs for some cast .38 revolver boolits. After some research in various loading manuals I decided to try Varget as I had some on hand and it was a nice mid-range burning rate powder also insensitive to temperature. I worked up to 38 grains IN MY RIFLE and got excellent accuracy. If you try Varget, I suggest you start 10% lower. Good shooting, Ed

Jump over to the Marlin Owners forum. There is a ton of info there. I am still working on my and can't report on any concrete results yet.

Unless I were in the open range country out West, if I had to live with just one rifle, the 336 in .35 Remington would be it. I have my old Dad's, which was his only deer rifle for the last 30 years of his life. After he got it, he sold everything else.

I have a 336SC, I use my TLC359-190-RF with it.
