Ruger #1 hammer spring

Anyone here know of an easy way to change a Ruger #1 hammer spring?
I bought a Wolf extra power hammer spring and before I buy the Ruger #1 hammer spring compressor tool ($45) to make the swap, I thought I should ask.
I've seen the write up Cylindersmith has on the Ruger single actions, but I don't think it will work with the #1 because of the end piece.

I've changed the springs in all 5 of my Ruger #1's and for the life of me can't remember the procedure. I do know that I didn't need any special tools to do it though. You might try to post this question on the Ruger Forum. Most of my rifles including my Rugers are in storage now and I can't get to one of them to dis-assemble and check for you.
