I have a cylinder throat reamer I used on my 45 Colt (.4525). Can it be used to open up a Ruger 45 ACP convertible cylinder? Do the headspacing ledges become a factor. I've been in contact with one of our new members who may want to do this. I don't want to do any harm to someone elses gun.:???:

I have used the cylinder throat reamer from Brownells to ream my .45 Colt (.4525) as well as the conversion cylinder 45ACP with no harm. I did use the correct .4480 guide bushing to keep the reamer centered, Luclily I only had to take out about .0015 to get the throats to correct diameter

I don't have the pilot pack, but it did come with the .4480 pilot. As long as it won't cut the headspacer, that's what worries me.

I did mine in a mill with the cylinders clamped into a V-block and the V-block in a
mill vise that was free to self center under the reamer. Ran it at slow speed with lots
of oil. Not the same as doing it by hand, but with a pilot, you should be centered
well at the front, but what centers it at the back?

Manson suggested cutting the head off a fired case and inserting it in the chamber to use as a guide for the back part of the reamer. Worked for me.

Exactly what I needed to know. I had the gut feeling it might be a problem with the ACP's. Thanks.

Just to let everyone know, Dutch helped me with 6 @ .45 caliber cylinders. It took us about 5 hours at two different settings. He would not let me leave until he had provided enough .45 LC and .44 Special brass and even some .44 Special dies for me to get started reloading.
