I brought home my first mosin nagont 91/30 today. i am an muzzleloader guy, I could not walk away from it. I have not shot it yet but I am ready looking for another one lol.

I am planning on reloading for it as well as casting. going to the rear site replace scope mount. rubber butt plate. that is about it.

Right there with ya, just picked up my first today as well, they had a great selection and many of the hex receiver models that I hear so much about but i was checking barrels with a bore light and there was a 1942 with a round receiver that just had an incredible looking bore so I couldn't bring myself to take the poorer barrel in the hex receiver. Had all matching serial numbers down to the bayonet and at 100 bucks I figured it was about time to get one. I have been kicking the idea around for a long time. The metal finish is definitely rougher but the bore is the important part for me. Also none of the rifles they had were counterbored and they came with 4 ammo pouches, belt, toolkit and solvent bottle. If anyone is in Salt Lake and would like to know where to go send me a PM as I am not sure if we are supposed to put that type of information on the open forum.

P.S. How was your adventure with the cosmolene?

have experience with stuff. first milsurp I had was an sks. learned the hard way. spent two hours cleaning

mine is an hex, great bore. no extras I just put this way on price, it beat the prices of the other two I found, an pawn shop was wanting 180 and the gun shop I am not going to go to anymore was wanting $200

Noe is currently running a Group Buy of the 316299 which is a fattened up (.316" bands and .305" nose) version of the Lyman 314299. If you're looking for a first mold to cast boolits for your new rifles with I would recommend the NOE 316299.

Hope this helps, :D

Very cool! I just posted my first experience with this rifle recently. I was happy with how it shoots, granted I'm a novice. So I'm sure you'll really enjoy it as well! I found the biggest chunks of the cosmolene in the magazine area and under the bolt. Everywhere was a little greasy, but those were the worst. I'm going to keep an eye on your thread here, as I hope to cast for this fun shooter as well! -Brad

So does anybody know how to identify machine gun ammo in this caliber? I understand that it is loaded too hot for these rifles.
